Why This Book Exists

Gnosticism is one of the most misunderstood and maligned streams of human wisdom. The very word “Gnostic” comes from gnosis, meaning “knowing”, not belief, not faith, but direct knowledge born of inner revelation. Yet for nearly two thousand years, the world has heard of Gnosticism mainly through its enemies. The official Church, threatened by what it could not control, labelled it heresy, destroyed its texts, and erased its memory. What survived of it came to us filtered through polemics, accusations, and fragments preserved by those who condemned it.

But the Gnostics were not rebels against truth; they were its preservers. They carried forward an understanding that the divine is not somewhere outside us, but within us. Theirs was not a religion of obedience, but a path of remembrance, of awakening to the fact that human consciousness and divine consciousness are one and the same.

This teaching was not alien to Jesus; it was the current from which his words arose. The sayings attributed to him in texts like the Gospel of Thomas are pure Gnostic revelation: “The Kingdom is within you and it is outside you.” He spoke not of worshipping a distant God, but of recognising the light within oneself. What later became Christianity began as a movement of awakening, not an institution of belief. Only when the outer authorities gained power did the inner message have to go underground.

To speak of Jesus here is therefore not to promote a religion. It is to restore the living truth that his presence embodied, the state of consciousness we call Christ. The name “Jesus” has been wrapped in centuries of dogma, yet behind that name stands a universal principle that belongs to no creed: the direct knowing of one’s divine origin. This book reclaims that essence from theology and returns it to experience.

For many seekers today, the word Christ triggers resistance, because it has been used as a weapon of control. The same distortion once made “God” a symbol of judgement instead of unity. But to reject these words is still to be bound by them. The Gnostic way is not to fight symbols but to see through them, to decode their inner meaning. What religion made external, gnosis returns to the heart.

This book exists now because humanity stands where the early Gnostics once stood: at the threshold between ignorance and remembrance. We live in an age overflowing with information yet starved of direct experience. The institutions of belief are crumbling, but the hunger for truth remains. People are awakening not to new beliefs, but to the same eternal knowing that once moved through the mystery schools, through the Hermetic temples, through the voices of Sophia and Christ alike.

We write this book to heal a forgotten lineage, to remind that Gnosticism was never a historical curiosity, but a timeless map of consciousness. Its myths of Sophia and the Demiurge, its stories of fall and redemption, are not events of the past but mirrors of the human journey. They describe the descent of awareness into matter and its return to unity through remembrance.

The relevance of gnosis today lies in its simplicity. It asks no one to convert or conform. It only invites each to look within and know. It restores the authority of truth to the individual, freeing us from dependence on priests, systems, and saviours. It replaces dogma with discovery.

The Gnostic message is alive again because humanity is ready for it. The outer religion is dissolving, but the inner revelation is rising. As the ancient flame of knowing burns through the veils of superstition, what was once heresy becomes the foundation of awakening.

This book exists as part of that return, not to defend a doctrine, but to open a doorway. It speaks to those who sense that life is more than belief, that truth must be lived, not borrowed. It is for those who feel drawn to the Christ within, even if they never believed in the Christ without.

To know is to awaken. And in this remembering, the lost wisdom of the ages becomes the living knowledge of the now.
